24.10.2006Shadowgrounds (pc) - eToy Chest - arvio: 85%In all, Shadowgrounds is not the longest game out there, but it offers a lot of bang for the buck Meridian4 and Frozenbyte are asking – and it is available on Steam, which is convenient. This is definitely a game action fans, Aliens enthusiasts, as well as players who enjoyed classic games such as Alien Syndrome – a real classic in the top-down genre – will enjoy immensely. |
24.10.2006Shadowgrounds (pc) - Gamer Within - arvio: 8,3/10Shadowgrounds brings back many of the classic gaming elements from the best topdown shooters of the past, and updates them with revamped graphics, full lighting and physics, a fantastic musical score, and a so-lame-it’s-funny storyline. There is no denying that this is not a AAA title, and its lack of multiplayer means that once the campaign is finished it does not offer too much in replayability other than the odd quick mission for stress relief. However, for anyone wanting some classic gaming, and just plain old fun, Shadowgrounds comes very highly recommended – and its low ticket price is just the icing on the cake. |
24.10.2006Shadowgrounds (pc) - 2404 PC Gaming- arvio: 8,3/10Shadowgrounds is a good example that games with forgettable stories and acting are still worth playing. Rich storytelling is always welcome and I’d love to see more of it, but these are games after all and playability is a lot more important. Certain genres benefit from immersive themes more than others, but when an arcade action game has plenty of solidly done action in it, the plot is non-essential. Actually I would’ve had no objections had it been entirely scraped in favor of a dozen extra levels, especially when combat is this much fun. |
24.10.2006Darwinia (pc) - 2404 PC Gaming - arvio: 9,1/10CONCLUSION: Darwinia is revolutionary and groundbreaking. The words most used in this review are “atmosphere” and “experience,” both apt descriptors. The Darwinia website claims that “Darwinia represents a fusion of the spirit and soul of the vintage years of gaming, brought bang up to date with the power and scope that modern gaming technology has to offer.” I couldn't have put it better myself. |
24.10.2006Perimeter (pc) - 2404 PC Gaming - arvio: 8,0/10Overall For a title surrounded with very little fanfare, I was quite surprised with what I found. This game is easily the best in-planet RTS title I have played since Starcraft, and it definitely gives me hope for the future of the RTS genre as a whole. Seldom does a game come along that promises innovation and then actually delivers it, but Perimeter has found a way to make RTS gaming fun again. |
24.10.2006Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 (pc) - 2404 PC Gaming - arvio: 8,0/10In the end, I’d have to say that Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is worth the twenty five dollars. Once Tripwire has some time to iron out the bugs I can really see Ostfront succeeding as a great teamwork game for clans. I’m also hoping that new maps will be released in time so that players will stick around. I had to dock it somewhat for the bugs, the A.I., and the tank maps but see these issues being resolved in the near future. If you enjoy World War II games, especially ones with realistic gameplay, you’ll want to get this game. |
24.10.2006Darwinia (pc) - Gamer Within - arvio: 8,2/10The main point to understand about Darwinia is that it is simply fun. Its pacing and gameplay is simply addictive and charming in ways that some of the best classics were in the past, and remain today. It is unfortunate that its lack of graphic one-upmanship with the big boys will see it passed over by most gamers, since this title deserves to be played. Those looking for something different and a solid game by any standards will have a great time with Darwinia. If nothing else, it proves that there is still room for innovation and small developers in the industry, and that they are able to make games that hard-core gamers want to play. |
24.10.2006Disgaea 2 (ps2) - eToy Chest - arvio: 90%In short, Disgaea is back. It's still very much the same experience as before, only changed ever so slightly to patch up the problems found in the first title. Gone for the most part is the wonky AI, and while the game can still be completed in 40 hours or so with a party of level 50 or even less, there is still that option of spending hundreds of hours, grinding to ridiculous levels through the Item World. In truth, like with the first game, Disgaea is what you want it to be, and you take away from the experience what you wish. Its difficulty and sometimes confusing nature continues to keep the game from being appropriate for newcomers to the genre itself, but memorable characters and dialog, deceptively deep mechanics, and a promise of future sequels make this series, the flagship of Nippon Ichi and NIS America, one of the crowning achievements of this console generation. |
24.10.2006City Life (pc) - eToy Chest - arvio: 80%In all, City Life is a title that could have easily been something the developers at Monte Cristo just shoveled out the door onto the ever-growing retail shelf. While it happens to have an deceptively inconspicuous title, the same cannot be said for the experience it provides. It may not be the next SimCity, this is still something that fans of simulation and city construction games should consider picking up. |
24.10.2006Darwinia (pc) - eToy Chest - arvio: 90%So, if it isn't clear yet, Darwinia is really neat, a completely fresh breath of air, and you need to play it. "But," you might say, "hasn't this game been around for some time?" and indeed it has. It has been available on Steam – Valve software’s digital delivery service - for quite a while, and is a relevant discussion for today as it has only just found a retail release. So, if you're feeling rushed, you could be playing this game in a scant few minutes. However, it might just be worth the extra time to reward the bringing of such daring and unabashedly brilliant gaming to store shelves with a retail purchase. Either way, play this game. |

17.10.2006Darwinia (pc) - Deeko - arvio: 9,5/10Darwinia is a game unlike any other, with a mixture of gameplay elements that have been thrust together forming one glorious gameplay experience that has to be played to be believed. |
